Dimitri Lascaris: “Iran is a rich, ancient, civilization, ...which we're trying to destroy"
June 17, 2025 Lawyer and journalist Dimitri Lascaris spoke to me about Iran's retaliation to Israel's latest unprovoked strikes on Iran, noting that the forceful display of strength we've seen from Iran in the last few days are not even using Iran's most powerful missiles. The West has buttressed Israel with air defence systems, yet Iran has decisively struck numerous important strategic and military sites in Israel. Dimitri warns that Israel cannot withstand these retaliatory attacks on a prolonged basis, and could resort to the use of its nuclear weapons, or the US launching a full blown war on Iran. “Either of those outcomes would be existentially dangerous for humanity.” “I just don't see how this doesn't end with the United States becoming fully engaged in this war, and I think that this has been the objective all along. Trump, cognizant of the fact that most Americans don't want a war with Iran, is going to wait until Israel has suffered enough damage that he can say with a straight face that, 'the very existence of the Zionist entity is at risk. And now we Americans...we have no alternative but to come to Israel's defence in its hour of desperate need.' That's the narrative that we're going to hear.” Contrary to the notion that Israel is coercing the US into involvement, Dimitri emphasizes: “Israel does exactly what the Anglo-American Empire wants it to do.” He goes back to the founding of Israel, “this was all about setting up a massive western military base in the heart of this region to dominate it for decades to come. What they're seeing now is their control of the region is slipping away...Israel is doing exactly what the West wants it to. And the last state standing in this project to dominate West Asia is Iran. They want to destroy Iran. That's the objective, it's not Iran's nuclear program.” The West's intent to destroy Iran is not new. Dimitri refers to the 2009 Brookings Institution's “Which Path to Persia? Options for a New American Strategy toward Iran” which details plans to attack Iran. https://www.brookings.edu/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/06_iran_strategy.pdf Dimitri also gives personal insights on Tehran from his recent visit there, observations which would surprise anyone indoctrinated (by Western and Zionist rhetoric) into thinking the worst about Iran and Iranian society.
