"It is the Constant Image of your Face" (CSEC English B Analysis) - by Dennis Brutus
The poet presents the dilemma of a devout nationalist who feels he must repress his love for a particular woman (or country) if he is to be loyal to his mother country. He finds that he cannot do this, but first tries to blame her constant presence in his mind for his feelings of guilt. He, then, admits that his faults and the woman's beauty and warmth teamed up with his heart to force him to be disloyal. He pleads with his mother country to sympathise with his succumbing to the woman's gentleness which he claims is equally powerful. 00:00 - Intro. 00:43 - Reading of the poem 1:44 - About the poet 3:36 - Literary lenses 4:43 - Lenses 4:59 - Feminisation of countries 3:19 - Structure of the poem 3:45 - Title 4:22 - Stanza 1 11:03 - Stanza 2 28:58 - Tones 49:34 - Moods 55:07 - Themes 59:14 - Summary 1:00:29 - My other videos
